Psalm 119 Lessons Learned

1.  The author of Psalm 119 is unknown.

2.  Psalm 119 is in the wisdom category of the Psalms.

3.  There are 22 stanzas in Psalm 119, each stanza has 8 verses.

4.  Psalm 119 is an acrostic poem of 22 stanzas, following the Hebrew alphabet; within each stanza, each verse begins with the same Hebrew letter.

5.  Almost every verse in Psalm 119 says something about the Word of God by referencing one of these words (law, testimonies, his ways, precepts, statutes, commandments, righteous rules, your word, your promise).

6.  A point of this Psalm is that from A to Z, all circumstances of life are covered by God’s Word.

7.  Recognizable verses from Psalm 119:

•      Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. KJV Verse 11

•      Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. KJV Verse 105

•      Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. KJV Verse 114

10.   Psalm 119 is longer than some books in the Bible.

12.   Psalm 119 is a commentary on Psalm 19:7-11.

13 Application:

•      God has promised blessing to those who are passionate for knowing and obeying His Word.

•      Be teachable (v12). We never get to the point of ‘knowing it all.’ Allow God to mold you into the vessel of His choosing.

•      “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” ESV Hebrews 4:12—Let God’s Word do its work in your life.
