1 Peter 5:1-11
Lessons Learned

1. Church leaders are to care for God's flock.
2. Church leaders who serve out of 'duty' will become stale and bitter.
3. Church leaders are to serve with a willing heart.
4. Church leaders who work solely for what they get out of it (money, power, recognition, etc.) become filled with pride.
5. Church leaders who rule with a dictator approach do not display grace to the flock.
6. Church leaders are to set the example for Godliness.
7. Church leaders are representatives for the Chief Shepherd—Jesus.
8. When Jesus comes, faithful church leaders will receive a crown of glory (victory crown) that will never fade or need to be polished.
9. The flock will flourish when they submit to Godly leadership.
10. Pride is a hindrance to the work God is trying to accomplish.
11. The opposite of humility is arrogance.
12. God works through those who are humble.
13. God wants to carry your load.
14. The enemy is observing you, looking for an opportunity to attack.
15. Believers are commanded to be on guard.
16. You are not alone in suffering for your faith. Many others are currently suffering along with you, and many more have suffered in the past.
17. Faith is a powerful weapon for those suffering; don't compromise.
18. God's grace is sufficient to sustain you in suffering and trials.
19. Silas assisted Peter as he wrote 1 Peter. (See 1 Peter 5:12)
20. Church leaders are to serve as a shepherd that is caring for God's flock.
21. Pride is a barrier to spiritual progress. H.A. Ironside
22. God will not allow more persecution than you can bear.
23. The God of the Bible is a God of Grace.
24. God will perfect you, make you strong, and give you a firm foundation as a result of suffering for His name.

è How to be Satan’s Breakfast
1. Resent and resist authority. (at home, at church, at work, in the government)
2. Be proud. (View yourself as the favored of God, a pillar of society, first among equals)
3. Seek praise. (per your own schedule, on your own priorities)
4. Be anxious. (worry over trivial details, performance – act as though you are the critical component to all success)
5. Question God’s care for you. (blame God for your life, assume no responsibility for your decisions, or the consequences that follow)
6. Be unbalanced in your thinking. (doubt God’s control of life)
7. Be self-focused. (spend your time on yourself, make sure your needs are met first)
è How Not to Be Satan’s Breakfast (1 Peter 5)
1. Subject yourselves to authority. (1Pet 5:5; God’s, man’s)
2. Be humble. (1Pet 5:5-6 – How? By becoming obedient, as Jesus did in Philippians 2:8; humble with each other, humble under God)
3. Seek God’s praise according to God’s schedule. (1Pet 5:6 – at the proper time. Who chooses the time? God alone.)
4. Don’t be anxious. (1Pet 5:7)
5. Be sure of God’s care for you. (1Pet 5:8).
6. Be sober-minded. (1Pet 5:8, know that he is in control, no matter what appearances may be)
7. Be spiritually-alert. (1Pet. 5:8 – knowing Satan is prowling around out there, looking for an easy meal)
27. Application:
Church leaders are to serve humbly as they feed and protect the flock of God.
Humility does not come naturally to people, you must first be humbled by God before you can be humble with your peers.
Your enemy the devil is looking for an opportunity to destroy you—therefore, you must be spiritually prepared to defend against his attack.
