Lessons Learned

by Wayne Gaeddert

1. Beloved is a term used by the Greeks to describe the relationship of parents with an only child.

2. Believers whose lives boldly identify with Christ should expect to suffer.

3. The proper reaction to trials is rejoicing and praising God. That's what the apostles did in Acts 5:40-42.

4. The blessing of being insulted because of your stand for Christ is the realization that you are being insulted because the glory of the Spirit of God rests on you.

5. Suffering in the present for the cause of Christ opens the door to future joy.  (reward)

6. First suffering, and then glory, the cross comes before the crown.

7. Jesus pronounced a blessing on those who suffer reproach because of his name. Matt. 5:11

8. Suffering the consequences for violating God's commandments does not qualify for a blessing.

9. Being a manipulator by meddling in the affairs of others is not a cause for which to suffer.

10. There is no shame in suffering because you are a Christian.

11. Suffering is designed to bring glory to God, don't make it about 'poor me.'

12. Judgment begins with God's people, and God disciplines and refines His people.

13. God's people will be judged by their works. See 1 Cor 3:12

14. The ungodly will be judged for their rejection of Jesus Christ. Eternal separation from God “...into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”       Matt.  25: 31-33, 41

15. Those called to suffer for the cause of Christ can trust their life to God. Jesus did. See Luke 23:46

16. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or a thief, or any sort of criminal [in response to persecution], or as a troublesome meddler interfering in the affairs of others; 1 Peter 4:15 AMP

17. Entrust is a banking term that means you put your deposit there to be protected.

18. Peter says, deposit your soul in God’s trustworthy bank.

19. Application:

  • Believers should expect suffering; therefore, be prepared.

  • Believers are not to hide under a bushel when they suffer, but use suffering as an opportunity to glorify God.

  • Embrace suffering by trusting God. Romans 8:28

  • Suffering is temporary; the glory of eternity is forever.
